ALUMNI MEET ON 18-11-2024
Department of Commerce, University of Kashmir organized the ‘First Commerce Alumni Meet’ at Gandhi Bhawan on 18th November, 2024, marking a significant milestone in the department’s history. This landmark event was held with the dual purpose of celebrating the achievements of its alumni and formally establishing the Commerce Alumni Association's Kashmir chapter. The gathering brought together prominent alumni from various fields, who shared their inspiring journeys and valuable experiences. The event began with a ‘Welcome Address’ by Prof. Mohi-ud-din Sangmi, the Head of the Department of Commerce. In his speech, Prof. Sangmi emphasized the significance of creating an organized platform for alumni to connect, share resources, and support each other’s endeavors. This sentiment resonated throughout the proceedings, with all the dignitaries stressing the need for a strong, unified alumni association that could play a crucial role in the academic and professional development of future generations. Among the distinguished attendees were luminaries such as Prof. Farooq Ahmad Shah, Prof. Abdul Gani, Mr. Syed Shakeel Qalander, Mr. Arif Amin Shah, Prof. Nazir Ahmad Shah, and Prof. Fayaz Ahmad Nikka. These esteemed figures spoke about their professional paths, the pivotal roles they had undertaken, and the influence of the Department of Commerce on their success. Their addresses highlighted the importance of alumni networks in fostering collaboration and growth within the academic and professional spheres. A major highlight of the event was the formation of the first ‘Adhoc Committee’ for the Commerce Alumni Association. The Committee, which will serve for one year, is headed by Prof. Farooq Ahmad Shah as the President, Mr. Shakeel Qalander and Ms. Nasreen Chishti as Vice President, and Dr. Pervaiz Ahmad as Secretary-cum-Treasurer. The committee has been tasked with formalizing the structure of the Association, and in the coming months, it will work towards formulating an executive body to manage the affairs of the Association. In the interim, the Department of Commerce will serve as the official office of the Association. Dr. Pervaiz served as the Coordinator cum dice Incharge of the meet overseeing the coordination and management of the event. The event concluded with a heartfelt Vote of Thanks by Dr. Sabiya Mufti, who expressed gratitude to all the dignitaries, alumni, faculty, and attendees for their valuable contributions to the success of the meet.
