Report on Industrial Visit to Industrial Growth Center Lassipora, Pulwama, J&K
The Department of Commerce, University of Kashmir, organized an Industrial visit for students of M.Com 4th and 2nd semesters to the Lassipora Industrial Growth Centre, Pulwama on 19th April, 2025. The industrial Growth Center at Lassipora, known for its diverse range of manufacturing and agro-based units, served as an ideal destination for experiential learning. Two significant units were visited during the tour:
- Haleeb Dairy Milk
- Safe Trading CA Store
Students, along with faculty members, visited both units and were warmly received by the management teams. They were given guided tours of the facilities and engaged in interactive sessions with operational staff and key managerial personnel.
At Haleeb Dairy Milk, students were introduced to the milk processing and packaging cycle, including quality control, cold chain logistics, and supply chain integration. The plant officials explained the step-by-step workflow from milk collection to final dispatch. At Safe Trading CA Store, students observed the Controlled Atmosphere (CA) storage techniques used for preserving fruits and perishables, with insights into storage technologies, temperature and humidity regulation, and inventory management. Both units elaborated on their pricing mechanisms and market positioning strategies. Discussions revolved around demand-driven pricing models and target customer segments. Students raised pertinent questions related to sustainability and environmental impact. In response, the management teams highlighted measures like water conservation, energy-efficient machinery, biodegradable packaging, and waste management initiatives. A thought-provoking aspect discussed during the visit was the lack of gender diversity in the workforce. Students and faculty pointed out the visible underrepresentation of women in both managerial and operational roles. The management acknowledged the issue and discussed potential steps to encourage more inclusive hiring practices in the future. Company representatives provided insights into their current market share, customer base and projected growth.
The industrial visit to Lassipora proved to be a valuable educational experience, bridging the gap between classroom theory and workplace reality. It enriched the students’ academic understanding with practical insights and fostered a deeper interest in industrial and managerial practices. The Department of Commerce expresses its gratitude to the management of Haleeb Dairy Milk and Safe Trading CA Store for their cooperation and willingness to engage with the students. The department looks forward to organizing more such industry-academia interactions in the future.
