Department of Commerce Organises Educational Visit to J&KEDI, Pampore
The Department of Commerce, University of Kashmir, successfully organised an educational visit for M.Com students to the Jammu and Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute (J&KEDI), Pampore, on Thursday, 6 August 2026. The visit was aimed at fostering entrepreneurial awareness, promoting innovation, and encouraging students to explore entrepreneurship as a viable career option.
A group of 30 M.Com students, accompanied by faculty coordinator Dr. Altaf Ahmad Dar, participated in a half-day Startup Orientation Session organised by J&KEDI, Pampore. The session was conducted by renowned entrepreneurship expert Prof. Sunil Handa, who provided valuable insights into startup ideation, business model development, innovation, opportunity identification, risk management, and strategies for building and scaling successful ventures.
Through practical examples and engaging discussions, Prof. Handa encouraged students to develop an entrepreneurial mindset and emphasised creativity, leadership, perseverance, and problem-solving as essential qualities for entrepreneurial success.
The visit also provided students with an opportunity to learn about the incubation, mentoring, training, funding opportunities, and institutional support mechanisms offered by J&KEDI to promote entrepreneurship in Jammu and Kashmir. The knowledge and experiences gained during the programme are expected to strengthen students’ understanding of entrepreneurship, enhance their awareness of the start-up ecosystem, and encourage them to explore and pursue innovative business ideas.
The educational visit thus served as a valuable experiential learning opportunity. The Department of Commerce remains committed to organising more such initiatives to complement classroom-based learning with practical exposure to entrepreneurship development and the start-up ecosystem, thereby enabling students to develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to explore entrepreneurial opportunities.
